Grab a drink, sit back and enjoy Glenn Calquhoun, Upsurge’s favourite poet and GP. Glenn returns to Upsurge for a relaxed and intimate evening in the Black Box Theatre. Glenn will read some of his favourite poems – including from his famous 2002 collection ‘Playing God’, which sold an incredible 10,000 copies – and some of his favourite poems by other writers.

Glenn will also read from his latest collection, Letters to Young People written to the young people he works with at the Horowhenua Youth Health Service. This free, three-day-a-week primary health service that he helped set up, often sees him treating the mental health of his young patients.

Glenn may also talk his life as a GP and about the time he’s spent trying to ‘convince my local DHB and anyone who’ll listen that we need more funding to open fulltime.’

Praise For Glenn Culquhoun…

“The most haunting poems are those achieving the greatest intimacy, that offer balm to heart-breaking personal circumstances and a scaffold for living.” Paula Green – kete
